Upcoming Rocky Mountain Highway Events!

Embark on a Musical Adventure.

Do You Crave Live Music? We’ve Got You Covered.

The Rocky Mountain Highway team has been working diligently to plan for 2017-2018, but in the meantime we have a bunch of great events coming up in August and September to share with you right now!

First, there are three remaining family-friendly concerts in the Patty Jewett Summer Neighborhood Concert Series. We’ve had  a rough go of it with rain so far this year, but the first show featuring Redraw the Farm was a huge hit! (pictured below)

New Vintage Jazz returns to the Patty Jewett Golf Courseon Friday, August 25, followed by Justus League on Friday, September 15 and Woodshed Red on Friday, September 29.

Admission is free and open to the public! Bring a chair or blanket to set up on the lawn or enjoy the music from the Patty Jewett Bar & Grill patio. Food and beverages will be available for sale all evening. No outside alcohol or food permitted. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be cancelled.

Many thanks are due to the sponsors of the Patty Jewett Concert Series: Ginseng CreativeRoot: Center for Yoga & Sacred Studies, Martin Harper C.P.A., and Downtown Copy Experts.

In September, Rocky Mountain Highway is proud to have a presence at three other established arts and culture events. First up is the 43rd Annual Commonwheel Artists Festival taking place at Manitou Springs’s Memorial Park over Labor Day Weekend, Saturday Sept. 2-Monday, Sept. 4. Our volunteers will be be pouring microbrews from our friends at Pikes Peak Brewing right next to the music stage, which will feature performances by some of the best local bands including EdithMo’ MungusThe KinnikinniksRyan FloresMolly Boyles, and many more! Widely considered to be the premier art festival in the Pikes Peak region, Commonwheel allows thousands of people to celebrate original fine art and contemporary crafts, talented local musicians, and specialty food items. Make sure to stop by the Rocky Mountain Highway beer garden for a cold one before you leave!

Then, Rocky Mountain is proud to present the 3rd Annual Edelweiss SommerfestFriday, Sept. 8-Sunday, Sept. 10. The festival takes place across the street from Edelweiss German Restaurant at 25 East Ramona Avenue and will feature Warsteiner beers along with authentic German games, food and music. All proceeds from beer sales benefit Rocky Mountain Highway, so we hope to see you there!

By the way, we could use a few more volunteers to help out at these events. If you can join us for a few hours, please e-mail Jenny at meadowgrassvolunteers@gmail.com.

Now entering its 16th year, Friends House Concerts in the Skyway neighborhood is thrilled to announce the first two shows of the 2017-2018 season. The series opens with a performance from singer-songwriter Heather Maloney onThursday, Sept. 14.  Needless to say, Heather wowed the MeadowGrassaudience this past May. Tickets are $25 and the concert will start promptly at 7 pm.

Mark your calendars now for the return of Ellis Paul to Friends House Concerts on Friday, December 1.  According to the New York Times, “Despite his success and sense of history, Mr. Paul remains an artist with his eye on the future and an interest in discovering the transformative potential in his music.” We’ll provide more details about both artists in future newsletters, but for now just know that you can reserve a seat for Ellis Paul for $30 and the show starts at 7:30 pm.

We have lots of other exciting concerts in the works and we are already deep into planning for the 10th Annual MeadowGrass Music Festival happening next Memorial Day weekend. In the meantime, we hope you’ll consider voting for MeadowGrass in the “Best Music Festival” category in the Colorado Springs Independent’s Best Of Awards. And if you support the Rocky Mountain Highway mission, we are also looking for some new people and businesses to help us raise at least $15,000 during the 2017 Give! Campaign, which runs November 1-December 31. Last year we raised nearly $13,000 during the campaign and we appreciate the community support! Commitments are due by September 1 and the minimum matching grant is $500. For more details, e-mail Rocky Mountain Highway Executive Director Steve Harris at steve@rockymountainhighway.org.
