Are You Ready for the Weekend???
We want to tell you about two great events that you won’t want to miss, but first let us remind you one last time that voting in the Gazette’s Best of the Springs Competition ends this coming Sunday, February 19. The MeadowGrass Music Festival has been nominated in the category of “Best Festival,” and 107.3 FM/1530 AM Mountain Country has been nominated for “Best Music Festival.” We also hope you’ll support Rocky Mountain Highway Executive Director Steve Harris as a “Mover and Shaker” in the arts community along with Dave & Lo from the Mountain Country Morning Show as “Best Radio Personalities. If you haven’t already voted, we invite you to do so at thebestofthesprings.com.
Saturday also marks the opening of a new exhibit at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, featuring the rock photography of our own Larry Hulst. You’ve seen Larry with his camera at MeadowGrass and concerts all over town, and now you can view more than 70 photos taken during his nearly 50-year career capturing rock royalty live in the act of making music. Included in the exhibit are artists including the Grateful Dead, David Bowie, Bonnie Raitt, BB King, Willie Nelson, among many others. A collection of Larry’s photos published by Ripple Effect Publishing is available for purchase in the FAC’s gift shop, along with prints of the photos displayed in the exhibit.
Also Saturday night, radio station Mountain Country – home to the Grass Roots Revival on Sunday mornings from 8-10 am – turns one year old with a birthday bash at Stargazers Theatre. Live music will be provided by the Jeffrey Alan Band, WreWood Station and Danny Tramel and you can expect lots of giveaways and complimentary birthday cake too. The doors open at 6 pm with music starting at 7 pm, and admission is absolutely free and open to the public!
